What is Thermoplastic?
Thermoplastic is a preformed polymer pavement marking material, which is adhered to asphalt concrete pavements and Portland cement concrete pavements by means of heat fusion. The markings are designed for straight lines, arrows, symbols, legends, letters and numbers. The material is designed for high urban traffic volumes and severe wear and will not deteriorate due to exposure to sunlight, oil, gasoline, water, salt or pavement oil content.
Thermoplastic installations is both material expensive and labor intensive, and should only be considered for what it is designed for – high traffic volume applications.
Thermoplastic is designed for high-traffic applications such as interstates, high-traffic-volume intersections and parking lot drive-lanes.
We can order Thermoplastic in 90 mil and 125 mil thickness.
The pavement surface is pre-heated with a torch for approximately 40 seconds to a temperature of 280-325 degrees Fahrenheit. The thermoplastic material is then placed over the area and heated from above with a torch in a circular motion, starting from the edges and moving inward until the material has fully conformed to the contour of the underlying pavement structure.
Thermoplastic has a lifespan of approximately 5-7 times that of traditional traffic paint.
